Description- 1938 Buick 46S Sport Coupé
From 1936 to 1958 Buick’s Special model range represented the marque’s entry level full-size automobile
This superb automobile has been lovingly restored by the previous owner. It has been driven just 200 miles since the restoration was completed in 2013.
Painted in two stage factory black coupled with the beautiful mohair upholstery with rear jump seats make up this unique car.
Under the vee-shaped hood is a 248 cui / 4065 cm³ Dynaflash inline eight-cylinder engine linked to a 3-speed floor shifted manual transmission. This engine was made from 1931 to 1953 and sold in Buick automobiles. Like many American automobile makers, Buick adopted the straight-eight engine in 1931 as a more powerful alternative to the previous inline-6 engines. However, unlike most other car makers at the time, Buick had been using a valve-in-head / OHV overhead valve design since its inception and continued this practice in their inline-8 designs. In earlier years, the engines used cast-in-place bearings that were then machined, which made engine rebuilding an expensive procedure, but after 1937, they began using drop-in bearings. The last year for the Buick Special’s straight-8 was 1953.
Rolling on new Lester Classic 6.50-16 wide white wall tires it also has a trunk mounted spare with original jack and tools included.
All the chrome, the stainless trim, glass and weatherstrip are in excellent condition.
Some options included are a radio and clock, banjo steering wheel, Buick Master heater, amber foglights.
During winter 2018/19 the Dynaflash straight 8 engine underwent a complete rebuild in our own workshop, OK-Classic GmbH. New valves, re-manufactured main bearings, coated pistons, cylinder sleeves, re-manufactured motor mounts and much more have been installed. No expense spared. The engine is currently being re-assembled and prepared for installation.
In May 2019 the Buick will be back on the road with like-new power and performance.
A great pre-war classic in outstanding condition. Ready to enjoy, drive and show!
